The kids and I are spending the day in Laughlin. Their daddy's new home firehouse is station 76, so we caught a ride down with him this morning and are spending the night here to cut off a few hours of drive time to our trip to the Grand Canyon tomorrow.

My mama heart as swelling at how far we have come since the early years of our Marley and me Optic Nerve Atrophy journey. I remember those days of fighting for Braille, for accommodations, for equal access to what her peers were receiving. There were so many years with so many tears where she resisted Braille, where she wanted nothing to do with blindness. This mama has learned to pick her battles with her now teenager. Although she resists her cane these days, I am so overwhelmingly grateful that she has found a love of books. Here she is reading on her Braille note taker in the local library while her brother and our neighbor run around looking for books to bring home with them. She's on her own summer reading challenge since she's not able to participate in the local library summer reading challenge. With every Braille book she finishes she'll get to pull from her own choice of prizes.

Just finished a few laps around the hood with one of my favorite little runners. So grateful I get to share the love of running with my niece. She's getting so big so fast. Perhaps We've got a future ultra runner in the family? #ForTheLoveOfRunning
